South Asia is undoubtedly a human security deficit region. India too is no exception. This volume is an in-depth study on the human security situation in India. Despite some remarkable achievements in the socio-economic, political and scientific fields, India’s 1.5 billion people suffer from a deep sense of insecurity, marginalization, exclusion, shelterlessness and violence. The thrust of the book is on understanding the human security situation and then exploring the journey ahead towards enhancement of human security in India. Additionally, the book discusses the issues of insecurity of the child and the abuse of child rights; problem of the refugees and the internally displaced persons; issues of the disempowered women. The issues discussed have become much more crucial in the wake of globalization of the Indian economy. It seems that India did not give adequate attention to some of the basis issues of human security. Enhancing human security through the human development agenda perhaps, need to address the problem of existing structural as well as class inequality in India. The book argues in favor of enhancing human security trough human development. The book is destined to become a major addition to the scholars and students of non-military security literature.
