This book is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Mahabub Hossain, a highly respected scholar and researcher who was Bangladesh's best-known expert in agricultural economics and rural development. Atiqur Rahman, Ph.D (Cambridge), formerly of BIDS, Dhaka, was a Senior Economist and later Lead Strategist at IFAD, Rome. He taught at John Cabot University, Rome, Italy as an Adjunct Professor and at the University of California, Riverside as a Visiting Professor. He is an author and an editor.

K.A.S. Murshid

K.A.S. Murshid, Ph.D, former Director General, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, is a development economist with extensive research experience in Bangladesh, East Asia, South Asia and Africa. He has worked mainly in the broad area of agriculture and rural development and has taken a particular interest in agrarian markets and value chain analysis.
